Shona Neary / Sketchy Shona
A practical guide for Berlin collectors considering existing originals or a site-specific painting, mural or installation by Shona Neary, known as Sketchy Shona.
Start by deciding whether you want an existing work or a commission
I am Shona Neary, known as Sketchy Shona, and I work between Berlin, New York City and Philadelphia. For Berlin collectors, the first choice is often between an existing original, with its own dimensions and materials, and a commission shaped around a person, room, wall or public setting. My project archive makes it possible to look closely at how the work meets a place.
The portfolio brings those routes together: project records show work made for specific settings, and the current listings identify originals available to collect.
Choose a form that fits the place
For a Berlin home, studio or workplace, a painting, drawing or object can be chosen in relation to the room: its wall dimensions, light, viewing distance and existing materials. Those details help me understand how a new image or object can live there. Share what you want the work to carry and what matters in the room; references can be a starting point for the conversation.
A mural or installation brings the street, building and people using the site into the decision. We can discuss the surface, ownership, access, indoor or outdoor conditions and how long the work should remain. Fashion and objects call for their own material and production questions, so the form follows the actual setting.
Berlin work records show different kinds of evidence
I have returned to Teufelsberg Urban Art Gallery for public-art participation in 2022, 2024 and 2025. One large-scale painting carries a moment from a Berlin Späti rave onto a wall. At that scale, the figure needs to hold from a distance while smaller marks and shifts in colour reward a closer look. The wall and its viewers shape how the image is read.
Life in Progress was my first solo exhibition in Berlin. Half Life, a self-portrait, was shown in the DA SWAMP exhibition at THE FLOOR. These records show paintings alongside installation, tattoos and a room of related work. Follow the Teufelsberg and exhibition pages to see how each project belongs to its own Berlin setting.
What collecting costs include
An available original is listed in euros at its artwork-only price. For delivery to Berlin or another destination, I confirm packing and insured shipping costs separately; customs charges, import duties and tariffs depend on the destination. A personally retained work is not for sale and has no price or purchase enquiry route. The listing and destination together make the collecting costs clear.
For a commission, we begin with a free consultation about the idea, site, timing, budget and any travel. Once scope, materials and price are agreed, a 50% deposit confirms the work. The remaining balance is due on completion, and we plan delivery, installation or handover around the agreed site.
Bring the practical questions
For an original in a Berlin interior, note the room dimensions, light, framing needs and whether you would collect or need insured delivery. For a mural or installation, share the site, surface, access, people who use it and any known permissions. Include your timing and budget so we can discuss a workable scale and form.
Browse the portfolio and current original listings, then use the commission page to book a free consultation. I work between Berlin, New York City and Philadelphia and travel for projects; we can plan the travel needed for a particular site as part of the discussion.
